Opening of the exhibition of Surinamese Kotos
The exhibition ‘Kotomisi, the power of traditional costume’ will be opened on friday the 13th of december 2019 with a festive program including the catwalkshow ‘Koto on the catwalk’ at the Singelkerk in Amsterdam. During this event the creation by Cheyenne Nelson, winner of the contest ‘design a new costume based on the kotomisi’ will be revealed.
Koto Afro-Surinam costume
Furthermore, Christine van Russel-Henar, curator of this exhibition and the director of the Koto museum in Paramaribo, will give a lecture on Afro Surinam traditional costume.
Visiting the Dutch Costume Museum
The Dutch Costume Museum can be visited until 22:00 after the celebrational opening. The exhibition ‘Kotomisi, the power of traditional costume’ is organized by The Dutch Costume Museum Amsterdam and the Kotomuseum in Paramaribo.
